8. Digital

We’re now at Section Eight of the Progress Pyramid—Digital. In today’s world, technology is your second-biggest lever after your people. Yet most business owners are still using tools they were trained on years ago. This session will help you rethink your digital infrastructure—so you can retrain, retool, and unlock the systems that drive your business forward.

Key Concepts

  1. Most business owners are still using outdated tools. The best systems today are faster, cheaper, and more effective—but only if you’re willing to adopt them.

  2. Digital infrastructure is one of your most powerful assets. If you invest wisely, it can simplify complexity and drive major gains.

  3. Your asset register should include training. Upskilling yourself and your team is often more valuable than the tools themselves.

  4. Your youngest team members often know the best tech. Ask them what works—they’re using it already. Empower them, and you’ll uncover game-changing ideas.

Welcome back to Session 8 of the Progress Pyramid.

Now, the Progress Pyramid is designed to help you, as a business owner, get organized—so you can clearly see what your issues are.

When I meet business owners, they often say, “Listen, I’ve got issues—lots of them.” And they start giving me a list—a big list. What I do, because I’ve memorized this Progress Pyramid in its 12 parts, is I start allocating those issues into categories.

One of the biggest areas? Digital infrastructure and IT infrastructure.

This is a huge part of every business today. In fact, I think it’s second only to your people in terms of where you can get serious leverage—by intelligently using digital tools and IT systems.

The exciting part? The cost of these tools is dropping—and it’s dropping faster than any other cost in your business.

But here's the catch: most of us are still using the tools we were trained on years ago.

Earlier, I shared that you need an asset register—and one of the key assets on there should be training. You need to retrain yourself.

Ask yourself:

  • What is your IT network infrastructure?

  • What is your digital infrastructure?

  • What software, at an operational level, can actually move the needle in your business?

Let me share a secret: the best way to figure that out is to ask your youngest team members.

Say to them, “Hey, we’re trying to get this thing done—what’s the best tech to do it?”
You’ll be amazed. If you empower them, they’ll tell you. They know what’s new. They’re out there using it and looking for it.

Bill Gates once said, “If I need something done efficiently, I ask a lazy person—because they’ll always find the easiest way to do it.”
That approach takes the complexity out of the equation.

So, in this area, don’t hesitate to reach out to us. We can connect you with experts who really understand this space.

You must be willing to invest here if you want to stay relevant.

It’s been said that every business in the future is a software business. At the very least, every business needs to be digitally engaged.

And if you’re not playing in that space—you need to be. Quickly.
