If you've had to reduce your team's hours due to the pandemic, they may be eligible for the COVID-19 Disaster Payment. These payments are designed to help alleviate pressure on business owners if you need to reduce staff hours to survive.

From week four of the lockdown, eligible workers will receive:

  • An increase in their COVID-19 disaster payment income support to $600 per week if they have lost more than 20 hours of work
  • Workers who have lost 8-20 hours, will receive $375
  • To receive the payment, they must meet the criteria found here and apply through Services Australia

This payment will commence on:

  • Friday 16 July for Woollahra, Waverley, Randwick and City of Sydney
  • Monday 19 July for the rest of Greater Sydney
  • From 18 July, payments will now be available outside virus-hotspots across NSW

The Government has confirmed that the payments "will go on for as long as the lockdown requires" and is a taxable payment, so will need to be included on income tax returns.
